What is supervision? A definition
Supervision is helpful and useful to anyone working with people. It includes (among other things):
- encouragement
- challenge
- support
- learning
- sharing
- debriefing
- professional advice
- discussion of cases/clients’ situations (preserving confidentiality & anonymity).
It takes places in groups, with peers and/or individually.
It incorporates parts of
- mentoring
- coaching
- group and individual work
- effective time-management
- self-care
.

My supervisory history
I am an accredited supervisor of the Christian Counselling Association of Australia (SA);
I have conducted group and individual supervision since 1998 in various settings, and currently run three supervision groups, and supervise a number of individual professional and student counsellors. In the years 2001-2005, supervision was about 1/3rd of my working time in my role as Senior Lecturer in Counselling, and Co-ordinator Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Tabor, Adelaide. I also continue to receive regular supervision of my own counselling and supervisory work.

2007 Becoming an Effective Supervisor 2 day workshop with Michael Carroll Ph. D
2001-2005 Case Conference; Group Supervision; Individual Supervision in Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Tabor Adelaide (approx 1./3 of my workload)
2005 Australian Counselling and Supervision Conference (3 days Brisbane)
2003 Week Long Intensive: Supervision in Counselling (tutor & guest lecturer)
2001, March: Supervision (2 day) Workshop Doug Sotheren

My supervisory approach
My style is integrative, creative, challenging with hopefully some humour.
My aim is to enable you to be the best counsellor, pastor, chaplain, teacher, nurse, social worker, people helper you can be.
All matters discussed are confidential, subject to the laws of the land.
As part of the supervision contract, I am available for emergency consultation.
